MP2RAGE (Magnetization Prepared Rapid Gradient Echo) is a method for getting T1-weighted brain images without the bias (like: proton density contrast, T2* contrast, reception bias field and transmit field inhomogeneity) that usually comes from having spatially varying B1 fields that occurs at 7T.
The general idea is to modify an MPRAGE scan by adding a second imaging readout period, hence the addition of “2”. The second readout gives an additional image, allowing you to simultaneously estimate the bias from B1, and to produce images free of bias.
MP2RAGE tool maximizes contrast-to-noise ratio per unit of time between brain tissues and minimizes the effect of B1+ variations through space.
